On December 13th, 2014, In Solitude played what later turned out to be their last live show, at the annual Eindhoven Metal meeting.Memories of the 'Sister' era of the band are still so vivid for many of us In Solitude listeners, that it is difficult to perceive these moments as already a decade old, and certainly the fact that they decided to end the journey of the band not long after their superb third album, makes it feel even more like it is sort of suspended in time.
We often say that In Solitude to us never went inactive though, because considering all the impact their music continues to have on many people, it is undeniable that what they created, sill lives on, in the ears, the minds and the hearts of their listeners.
No one knew back then that it was going to be their last show, until they announced the conclusion of the band after some months, in April 2015. But did they know, when they played it, that it was the final live performance they would have given to their audience?
In an interview given in 2023 to New Noise Magazine, Uno mentioned that already on the last day of their October 2014 tour with Beastmilk, "[...]in a sense, we all died together (laughing).Perhaps the band then died symbolically in everyone's subconscious.". But he also pointed out that however, none of them would be able to point to a specific day when they "ended" In Solitude and Pelle explained, on the same interview, that their breakup was "both gradual and sudden. It was reaching another crossroad in life." (See interview on issue 4/2023 on New Noise Magazine, formerly in Polish).
Regardless of how they went into that final show, conscious or not that it was going to be their last, In Solitude members have never spared any inch of themselves during their concerts, we all know that: the intensity which they used to put in their music, giving always all of themselves in each live show, will remain memorable and has certainly left a mark on so many people who have seen them live during those years.
This year, we are commemorating that final show with some really excellent images that talented photographer Adrian (Embrace Emptiness) took on that unforgettable December 13th: we are really grateful for these outstanding shots which, as you will see, truly capture that dark, heavy and soul-shaking atmosphere that was so unique to In Solitude.
