Even after immersing in this new record only a couple of times, it is undeniable that Saturnalia Temple have crafted an impressive opus: the listener can immediately feel that, not only because carried away by the elements of atmospheric doom, psychedelic hard rock, black metal and dark ambient intertwining each other together seamlessly, but also because the sound itself so fluently reaches immediately well beyond the auditory system, and a gut feeling that something almost ungraspable, yet so effective, inhabits within the music, is present since the very first listen.
Of course the attentive listeners of Tommie Eriksson's work, in Saturnalia Temple as well as in his other projects, are very likely are aware that beyond the creation of the music lies a profound spiritual approach, a powerful foundation stone which so spontaneusly charges the songs with an unearthly quality. Combined with the swirling, heavy riffs - "Paradigm Call" surely abounds in captivating riffs, not to mention a stunning guitar solo on the title track itself - and with the dense texture of the production, it all forms a fantastically cohesive and entrancing listening experience, though the kind of trance induced isn't that of a dreamless slumber, but rather akin to an active, catalyzed state of contemplation.
Absolutely to be mentioned also some stellar guest vocals by Paul Delaney from Black Anvil on "Among the Ruins", a track which fastens the pace of the musical descent into darker realms. "Prepare to dwell forever among the ruins"...
