Saturnalia Temple's "Paradigm Call" out now and streaming in full
Saturnalia Temple's fourth album "Paradigm Call" is out today on Listenable Records and it is now possible to stream the album in all its enthralling entirety!
Even after immersing in this new record only a couple of times, it is undeniable that Saturnalia Temple have crafted an impressive opus: the listener can immediately feel that, not only because carried away by the elements of atmospheric doom, psychedelic hard rock, black metal and dark ambient intertwining each other together seamlessly, but also because the sound itself so fluently reaches immediately well beyond the auditory system, and a gut feeling that something almost ungraspable, yet so effective, inhabits within the music, is present since the very first listen.

Focus On: Saturnalia Temple

| Saturnalia Temple in 2023: Tommie Eriksson (center) is joined by Pelle Åhman (left) on drums and Gottfrid Åhman (right) on bass guitar. Photo by Nox Ithil. |
We will mainly concentrate on Saturnalia Temple's more recent times and its current manifestation, but not without mentioning their early releases, still dense with meaning and musical power.
"Saturnalia Temple unites both spirit, sound, vibration and will in a musical ritual of personal dedication", explained the official biography back at the time when the official website of the band was still active.
Of course, regardless of the line-up changes throughout the years, Saturnalia Temple has always been Tommie Eriksson's musical creature, and thus it reflects many of his own interests, studies, spiritual experiences as well as manifesting all of these through the evocative and spellbinding riffs which have become throughout the years, emblematic of the band's sound.
However, the band's music oozes a magnetic and powerful aura and instinctively appeals to appreciators of heavy and psychedelic doom metal, whether or not they are interested in esoteric and spiritual subjects.
Those who are instead, can now read more about this also in Tommie's own website, the Institute Of Musical Alchemy.

Endtime release cover of Massgrav's song "Blåst På Konfekten"
Apocalyptic doomers Endtime have just unleashed their own version of Massgrav's song "Blåst På Konfekten"!
Endtime have introduced earlier today their cover explaining that:
"Last year the band Massgrav released their album ’Slowly we rock’ (great title, superfast record). For this they invited a couple of bands to perform Massgrav songs in their own style. Among them, yours truly! So today marks the unleashing of our sonic prophecy! We, the chosen disciples, have harnessed the chaotic energy of Massgrav’s hymn and molded it into our own apocalyptic rendition. Prepare to be consumed by the abyss of our version of the song ’Blåst på konfekten’!"
Indeed, they slowed down the madness to the level of (human) collapse and turned the former high-speed frenzy of the song into their bleak and murky chant of doom: listen to Endtime version of "Blåst På Konfekten" - and find also the original song by Massgrav, here below!

Apocalyptic doomers Endtime have just announced they are about to unleash more of their merciless bleak gospel upon the World soon, through a split album with U.S. psych doom outfit Cosmic Reaper that will be released on January 20th on Heavy Psych Sounds Records!
And what could be more appropriate to celebrate today's huge news than a brand new single, which happens to be Endtime's very own take on DEVO's "Tunnel of Life", casting a gloomy shadow over everything, and that features none other than Gottfrid Åhman on mellotron! The new single can be streamed NOW and you should do yourself the displeasing favor to blast it immediately:
Endtime comment on this new releasing saying that "This is the stuff that dreams are made of! The collective hard work of exposing nihilism and negativity to the masses has paid off. The fruits of our musical and tele-visionary labor will finally be available on Doom Sessions Vol. VII. We’re here to set the record straight by bringing you a cover of the legendary band DEVO and their track ’Tunnel of life’ On this we brought in Gottfrid Åhman from In Solitude, No Future, Invidious and Pågå on the Mellotron. Devo was right! Devo knew! All those crazy prophecies came true!"
There will be plenty of versions to choose from to satisfy any vinyl fetishist's wildest dreams such as test press vinyl and transparent/red splatter black vinyl (both ultra limited editions), 350 copies on violet vinyl, and for the more traditionalist of course the black vinyl, digipack and digital versions.
Tracklist appear to be as follows:
A1 ENDTIME – Tunnel Of Life – 4:30
A2 ENDTIME – Beyond The Black Void – 7:47
B1 COSMIC REAPER – Sundowner – 5:26
B2 COSMIC REAPER – Dead And Loving It – 5:55

Stream Endtime 's "Impending Doom" in all its dismal entirety!
After having seen recently two of their official videos, we sure know well enough there's no room to breathe hope in Endtime's music, and this full album stream completely confirms this impression: a feeling of suffocating, thick atmosphere fills your nostrils while the piercing, bleak heaviness of their music enters your ears and makes way to visions of gloom and despair in your mind...yes, it is undeniable that the title couldn't be more appropriate, and when you reach the last song, you will almost feel as you've been transported in the otherworldly desolation of the classic finale in Fulci's "The Beyond".
There's no doubt that Endtime have released a very inspired work of horror made music, and we are sure that many will appreciate their crushingly ominous soundscape as much as we do. Venture the apocalyptic trance pressing play here below:
Endtime's album "Impending Doom" is out on Heavy Psych Sounds Records and can be acquired in its physical formats on the label's European shop and U.S. shop, while the digital edition can be purchased and streamed on Bandcamp.

"The end can come in many forms" - an interview with Uppsala's apocalyptic doomers Endtime
Musicians in this doom outfit are no strangers to Unearthed Mirrors readers: from hardcore maniacs Undergång, masters of filth Obnoxious Youth, heavy rockers Taiwaz and Noctum, members have then joined forces to spread the oppressive and grim sound of Endtime.
As the release of their first album is approaching (it is due out on March 4th, more details below), we contacted them and asked them about their music, their earth-blowing videos, their horror-themed atmosphere and more. Read below how Endtime musically envision the "Impending Doom"!
U.M.: Your debut full-length, "Impending Doom", is about to be released in less than a month: can you tell us a bit about the songwriting process? How does an Endtime song typically take shape?
ENDTIME: It goes pretty much like this; Joppe writes a ton of riffs, then usually throws away 90% of them. Then we put the song together, record it and listen to it a couple of times and if it’s good enough we keep it. If it’s too groovy we throw it away. After that Crippe and Affe come up with the lyrics.
U.M.: The album has been recorded at Studio Shitfun in Uppsala: now, the name of the studio surely says it all - and by the way if we remember correctly, Reveal! also recorded in the same studio in the past, too - did the location of the actual recording have any impact on the album?
ENDTIME: Studio Shitfun is more of a concept and state of mind than an actual recording studio at one single location. It’s run by one of our band members therefore it was an easy choice.
U.M.: A question for all the gear nerds out there (we know there are quite a few following UM!): any favourite effects to get the best doom sound and intensify the typical oppressive, unnerving mood of the music (either that you already use or that you would like to use)?
U.M.: As you may know, we are super appreciators of your creepy-themed kind of doom. Thematically, it looks like it is more rooted in the good old horror atmosphere rather than dealing with more "earthly" kind of topics, so to say. Did the current state of the World somehow affect the apocalyptic theme of the album or is it completely unrelated to this kind of real-world state of affairs?
ENDTIME: The state of the world just confirms what we always have stated in all our previous bands as well as this one. That the world is on a 200km/h ride straight into an hillside. You reap what you sow and the chickens are coming home to roost. There is nothing more horrifying than the crushing weight of life itself. The overall theme of the album as well as the band itself deals with the end of the world and the end can come in many forms; nuclear war, biological and chemical warfare, catastrophic climate change, ecological collapse, pandemics, asteroid impact and even cosmic horror. That is why both the real threat of mass destruction by nuclear arms as well as the metaphorical threat of a cosmic doom works.
U.M.: In Endtime the music is closely linked to the horror visuals. What is the aspect of horror movies that you prefer to incorporate more in your songs: the creepy and ghastly vibe of the supernatural evil, or rather the disgusting, graphically disturbing impact of gore?
ENDTIME: Both, with everything we do we want to convey a feeling of dread and unease. And sometimes it works best with the creepy vibe and sometimes with the onslaught of ultraviolence to make people uncomfortable.
U.M.: Speaking of tasty stuff, on the label's official presentation, we can read that Endtime "turn amps up to 11, they cause ruptured eardrums and serious dysentery with their sub atomic frequencies". Will the physical effect actually be rather relevant in your shows? As in, are you aiming for some sort of less ritualistic/more nihilistic Sunn O))) kind of gut-shaking experience?
ENDTIME: The live experience of an Endtime show is just as important as the videos, artwork etc. An Endtime live show is accompanied by carefully chosen visuals being projected onto the stage. And sometimes there will even be blood. Yes, our own blood not the fake shit. You won’t be just seeing a band performing the songs while gazing down at their feet.
U.M.: Your latest music video, "Living Graves", is an impressive work of animation inspired by 80s cartoons which depicts, very appropriately, a tale of doom and destruction: would you tell us a bit about the making of the video?
ENDTIME: The idea of making a Saturday morning cartoon style video came up when we realized that making a cosmic horror video as a live action video is way above the resources we have. So making it animated was pretty much the only option we had. And also, we all grew up with that stuff! So our bassplayer worked day and night for about four months doing it the proper old school way of animating it frame by frame. And since it’s us, it’s packed with references to other films, music and places we like.
U.M.: When we spoke to Affe, he told us that you were going to release a video for each song on the album: is this still the plan?
ENDTIME: Yes, that is still the plan. Two down, three to go! All the videos will be done in different styles and when they all are finished the plan is to release them on limited VHS tapes. And since I would say we are fairly creative and with lots of stupid ideas there’s more weird stuff than just videos coming!
U.M.: "Impending Doom" will be released on Heavy Psych Sounds Records: can you tell us a bit about how the collaboration with the label came about?
ENDTIME: Heavy Psych Sounds was the only label with the courage to release an Endtime record. They instantly saw that we held a high standard through and through. With the music, the artwork and the overall package.
U.M.: This is all but, as tradition goes, if there is anything you want to add, feel free to do so and thanks again for your answers!
ENDTIME: Thanks for the support and keep up the good work with Unearthed Mirrors. The end is nigh!
A huge thank you to Endtime for taking the time to answer our questions!
Endtime's upcoming album "Impending Doom" will be out on Heavy Psych Sounds Records on March 4th, 2022: LPs, CDs and merchandise can be pre-ordered on the label's European shop or on the U.S. shop.

Book: Seven Metal Inches - Three Decades of Picture 7"s in Extreme Metal
"Seven Metal Inches" is the appropriate title of the book by Andreas Hertkorn which covers the past three decades of 7" picture disc releases in extreme metal: beside being a printed version of the vast encyclopedia that exists online at the site www.sevenmetalinches.com and featuring plenty of images of vinyls, flyers, artworks and more, it also includes 70 exclusive interviews with bands, labels and artists who share their passion for vinyl and discuss their picture disc releases.
Watain are among the bands interviewed in the book (to name but a few: Ancient Rites, Asphyx, Beastcraft, Brutal Truth, Denial of God, Dismember, Drowning the Light, Enthroned, In Aeternum, Incantation, Manticore, Mayhem, Mortifilia, Napalm Death, Nekrofilth, Nocturnal Graves, Nunslaughter, Sabbat, Sarkom, Sombre Présage, Sorhin, Vulcano and many, many more).
"As a picture disc maniac himself, front man Erik Danielsson wasted no time and mailed back his extensive answers after a couple of hours" explains the author of the book introducing the Watain interview.
A preview of the fully colored tome can be seen below:
