The Other Sun: debut album "Daimon, Devil, Dawn" out on July 23rd, 2024

"Daimon, Devil, Dawn" cover artwork by David S. Herrerías

The Ajna offensive and Invictus Productions have announced today that the debut album by Swedish dark rock band The Other Sun, titled "Daimon, Devil, Dawn" will be released on July 23rd, 2024!

As you might remember, back in 2019 The Other Sun released a truly intriguing cassette EP on Lapis Niger Production, "Horizon Between The Eyes" (see our archive post about it), at the time the band started as a collaboration between writer and musician Frederik Eytzinger (on guitar and vocals) and Tommie Eriksson (drums and guitar).

Now as of 2024, the line-up consists of Fredrik Eytzinger (lyrics, vocals, guitars, bass), Árni Bergur Zoëga (vocals, guitars, bass, drums, keyboards), and Tommie Eriksson (session solo guitars) and their debut album, once again with an impressive cover artwork by artist David S. Herrerías, will be out in Europe through Invictus Productions and in the U.S. through The Ajna Offensive. Pre-orders for the CD and the vinyl edition can already be placed on the official Bandcamp page of the album.

The official statement by the labels further explains:

"Fredrik Eytzinger is a writer and has published several books and articles in Europe and the US on topics related to occultism and magic. He is also the founder of the dark ambient band Nuclear Spells. Árni Bergur Zoëga is a professional composer and sound designer who is also involved in several other projects, such as Árstíðir Lífsins, Carpe Noctem, Helrunar, and Sól án varma. Tommie Eriksson is the founder of Saturnalia Temple and ritual ambient project Lapis Niger. Guest vocals on the track "A New Dawn" were performed by Erik Molarin, previous singer of the Swedish gothic metal band Beseech and more currently Dark brs. The album cover and lyric transcript was made by fine artist David S. Herrerías. The booklet photos were shot by Gothenburg-based photographer Peter Gaudiano, with layout by Heresie Studio. European release will be handled by Invictus Productions. The Other Sun draw influence from surf rock, western score, and '70s rock. People have suggested they hear bits of Tito & Tarantula, Swans, Deep Purple, The Devil's Blood, Virus (Norway), Dick Dale, and Ennio Morricone in their music. Daimon, Devil, Dawn is their debut album. Many of the lyrics are inspired by alchemical imagery as metaphors for the human condition. In particular, "Stalking the Stalker" was inspired by the poem "The Street" by Mexican author Octavio Paz.

Surely the Tito Tarantula and Dick Dale association will immediately bring a hint of Tarantinian vibe to many - and mentioning Ennio Morricone as well, definitely suggests we might be up for some truly cinematic music: which of course is a really interesting premise and only makes us even more curious to hear more!

The track premiere is the song "Stalking The Stalker", which previously appeared on their cassette EP and for which an official music video, dense with a brooding and uncanny atmosphere, was published in 2019. (This album version of the song is a remastered, slightly different version, as you will here below.)

The tracklist of "Daimon, Devil, Dawn" appears to be as follows:

"Shaking Ground"
"Stalking the Stalker"
"Black as Gold"
"Lion Spell"
"Horizon Between the Eyes"
"Conjuring Other"
"Pan"
"A New Dawn"

We are looking forward to hearing what this album will be able to evoke and meanwhile, you can stream "Stalking The Stalker" here below and don't forget to check out and follow The Other Sun on their official profiles on:
