Interview with Oeds Beydals about Molassess on Hinsides Magazine #4

Oeds Beydals - image courtesy of Hinsides Publications
"For me The Devil's Blood was all about learning, somewhat of a musical mentor i'd say. The musical connection to spirituality and also the technical side, harmony, sound etc. I took a lot in and it resonated with me and still does. After it disbanded I had the time to shed my own light on all of this touring with my own bands. And years later some of us got the chance to do something together again which was really special, but because of circumstances I think we haven't achieved even a small part of what the band could be if given the space. We created some great music but still haven't done proper touring, which does make the music come alive, and creates this group dynamic that is essential to a band in a way."

Issue #4 of Hinsides magazine, published in December 2023, features an interesting interview with Oeds Beydals about Molassess : it can be read online on the magazine's website.

Also featured in the same issue, many other interesting interviews, all touching upon the topic of esotericism and spirituality in art, music and literature: AT THIS LINK it's possible to order the magazine.

Molasses to perform at the 1st edition of EROS AT ARMS

Meh Suff and Dynamo Zürich have presented in these days the final line-up of a new festival which will take place in Switzerland at the end of April 2020: EROS AT ARMS.
"It is our great pleasure to present the premiere edition of Eros At Arms, Zurich's very own music festival for the alternative arts! We went the extra mile to assemble what we feel to be a diverse and exciting array of artists, cherished by us for their talent and uncompromising vocation and hope you share our excitement in welcoming them to the stage!", reads their official announcement, and indeed the line-up confirmed for the first edition of the event, is a truly well assorted selection which brings together some quite diverse manifestations of the underground and alternative music, where the common theme might certainly be the fact that each one of them is a remarkable representation of the music they play, and each one of them in their very own way.

Among them, one of course is of particular relevance here on Unearthed Mirrors: Molasses, who will return on stage after their debut at Roadburn 2019. The Dutch band has enchanted many of us with their first EP "Mourning Haze" / "Drops Of Sunlight", released on Ván Records on the day their first performance happened at Roadburn, on April 11th, 2019; following that there hasn't been any other live activity but when Doomstar Bookings announced, back in July 2019, that Molasses had joined their roster, it was an indication that something more was in store for the band, and actually, in an interview some months ago, the vocalist and founder member Farida Lemouchi has confirmed that they have been writing music together as a band and are considering the idea of a full album.

Farida Lemouchi confirms Molasses have plans to record a full album

After hearing Molasses' debut EP "Mourning Haze / Drops of Sunlight", released on Ván Records in April 2019, many of us have been harbouring hopes of seeing the band releasing more music. Much to our delight, this possibility seems now more likely than ever, with the confirmation coming directly from Farida Lemouchi: "It's important we have a set of tracks that are artistically as vibrant and powerful as the can be. Creativity comes first, not any business interests. When we all agree the material is as good as we can make it, then, and only then, we will start recording. Everything the band do is inspired by the search for excellence", said the vocalist and fonder of the band in a recent interview on the July 2019 issue of Prog magazine. Farida also talks about the birth of the band, its influences, songwriting and more: it's possible read the full interview HERE.
