Through Peaks and Valleys: a playlist by Matti Jalava

We're excited today to bring you another selection of songs which will make for a really variegated and inspiring listen: at times heavy, at times nofuckgiving, at times contemplative.

This all-rounder playlist has been curated for us by none other then axeman Matti Jalava - former member of VORUM; founder of Begravningsentreprenörerna and member of Unpure, who kindly agreed to pick some of his musical choices and share them with us.

It turned out to be a really interesting musical journey that touches upon many twists and turns of classic rock, heavy metal, death metal, punk, ambient and beyond.

We are thrilled today to bring you a special feature to be blasted at maximum volume:
this playlist has been curated by a true maniac who comes from none other than masters of filth Obnoxious Youth - and as if that already didn't say it all, he also used to go wild on bass in two of Death metal's most ferocious bands of recent times: namely VORUM and Degial, as well as doing the Hard rocking deeds with Begravningsentreprenörerna back at the time.

We're sure by now it's clear we are talking about John Zeke, who, as you might remember, also was one of the DJs at PÅGÅ's show in Helsinki: so we asked him if he wanted to be a DJ also for all of us here on Unearthed Mirrors, he kindly accepted and prepared this musical selection for us.
 A fittingly paced mix with both some widely known  names and some less heard of ones, ending with a choice that surely makes for a perfect conclusion.

Playlist: Soon on stage - first half of 2024

For many bands we follow here at Unearthed Mirrors, the first live shows of 2024 are approaching - with WATAIN, Lukas Häger, Saturnalia Temple and UnoX hitting the stage already next month, followed by PÅGÅ in early March; Unpure and Xalpen will embark on the Europe Ablaze tour in April/May, also in May are a couple of festivals for Maggot Heart and the quite unique Eros At Arms festival for Concrete Winds.

Here is then a selection of music which will be haunting venues in these upcoming months: you might want to blast again the ones you know already, and we surely recommend getting acquainted with those you might not be very familiar with yet, because although covering very different styles, they all have some really excellent music to offer!

Traces of Sulphur Along the Path: a playlist

Back in April 2018, when Secret Trees was about to release Eldhamn's first EP, and the first track had just been premiered("Bhairavi Eyes", included in the playlist), we created a playlist focused on Tommie Eriksson's main musical creations. While many people probably know him through Saturnalia Temple and Lapis Niger, his artistic creations all seem to have a more subtle, common thread that is noticeable to the attentive listener, who will also strongly sense the similar otherworldly aura that extends across all these projects.

Now, after the recent launch of the website Institute of Musical Alchemy, dedicated to the musical and magical work of Tommie Eriksson, it felt like the right time to bring this playlist back, with some updates with relevant releases that has been published since then, such as The Other Sun's first EP "Horizon Between the Eyes" (Lapis Niger Productions, 2019), and Saturnalia Temple's album "Gravity" (Listenable Records, 2020).

Pelle Åhman to curate "Svenskbotten" streaming on End All Parties

On Sunday, February 28th, 2021 End All Parties will host a special event curated by Pelle Åhman: "SVENSKBOTTEN".


He will present a collection of "weird and wonderful Swedish sounds" that he has chosen among his musical discoveries and rediscoveries travelling across the country.
We are looking forward to listening to his selection!

Solstice Bounce! With Uno Bruniusson & Cryss Crass

We're stoked to celebrate this Winter Solstice with a special stream of music put together for Unearthed Mirrors by none other than Uno Bruniusson and Cryss Crass - who are, as you might remember, also curators of “Faintfest”, their experimental radio program on KeithFM on Saturday at 22:00 (CEST).
That's right - they kindly provided a mesmerizing 2-hour continuous flow of haunting and psychoactive music to begin the Winter in the proper mindset.

Featuring - just to name a few of the excellent choices included - PÅGÅ, Scott Walker, Aphex Twin, John Coltrane, Andrea Belfi and many more.

Upcoming Releases & Represses: Autumn 2020 / A Playlist

This Autumn, there are so many excellent releases to look forward to that we decided to make a playlist to recap them all and make it easier to blast all the tracks that have already been premiered so far from these upcoming albums, while waiting to hear them in their entirety! The selection also includes some songs from two great albums which are going to be repressed this Autumn: Henrik Palm's "Many Days" and Maggot Heart's "Mercy Machine". Enjoy!

New Music, Old Nightmares: a playlist

Recently, there has been quite some new music thrilling the minds of us rock maniacs here at Unearthed Mirrors: Obnoxious Youth have just released a terrific new EP, Maggot Heart is teasing us with two new songs from their upcoming album out in just a few weeks, and Begravningsentreprenörerna has just released a new single, so there's enough good stuff to keep our ears busy and excited and of course there's also some less recent music which never ceases to provide its proper dose of rock madness, so here's a selection of songs to recap the new music which has been put out lately, as well as some of our all-time favourite classics. Mixing new and old, stirring it up well, here's our playlist "New Music, Old Nightmares" : wherever you are right now, turn up the volume and blast this loud!

On the Verge of Everywhere, Fall (A playlist by Lukas Häger)

Those of you who have been following Unearthed Mirrors for quite some time, already know we occasionally share playlists with selected music by bands and artists that are relevant to this website's nature. Today however, we're going for something different. In fact, we are stoked to present you a compelling selection of musical pieces that have been chosen by none other than the musician behind some of nowadays' most addictive riffs: Spine (Lukas) of Reveal! and No Future, who kindly compiled this playlist for Unearthed Mirrors whilst in the preparation for the release of RVL!' s third album.
Additionally to composing music which spans from the chamaleonically hectic rock of Reveal! to the more nuanced and experimental sound of his own solo works, Lukas has also been curating and running End All Parties, label and channel which has been providing its listeners with peculiar, intriguing and never predictable music, through its releases as well as through its live podcasts on Mixlr. And that's why we asked him if he wanted to create this playlist for Unearthed Mirrors, because all we knew was that we didn't know where this was going to, and not knowing what to expect was exactly what we wanted. Indeed, he got back to us with an astounding, absorbing and mind-stirring selection, which fits perfectly for the contemplative flavour of these days in the heart of Autumn.

Reveal!'s "Opaque" (and lots of other great choices) featured on Rodon Underground Show

Radio show Rodon Underground picked out several excellent choices in their April 18th playlist which features, among others: Black Salvation, Eldhamn, Henrik Palm, Maggot Heart, Death Alley, Saturnalia Temple, and, making its first appearance online, Reveal!'s single "Opaque" ! So far, the song has been performed during the Tighter, Tighter tour and available only on their recently released 7", so for all those who haven't heard it yet, here's the chance to finally meet "Opaque" in all its addictively delicious filth! As we approach the release of Eldhamn's EP, it feels like the right time for a playlist focused on Tommie Eriksson's main musical creations: most of us probably know him through Saturnalia Temple and Lapis Niger, and despite being style-wise different, the common thread is noticeable and the attentive listener will also strongly sense the similar otherworldly aura that extends across all these projects.
On April 9th, Secret Trees will release Eldhamn's first EP, and based on the track that has been premiered so far ("Bhairavi Eyes", included in the playlist) it appears that those deeper layers that are present in Saturnalia Temple and Lapis Niger will be channelled in this musical form, too.
